A kind of remake of the old RTS game Dune 2
For who don't know what Dune 2 is:
The player takes the role of a commander of one of three interplanetary houses, the Atreides, the Harkonnen or the Ordos, with the objective of wresting control of Arrakis from the two other houses. The basic strategy in the game is to harvest spice from the treacherous sand dunes using a harvester vehicle, convert the spice into credits via a refinery and to build military units with these acquired credits in order to fend off and destroy the enemy.
Some differences with the orginal Dune 2:
- In this game you have to unselect before you can select another group or buildings. Very annoying
- Troopers are almost unbeatable. So you better can create troopers. No need to create tanks or whatever. A real shame! :(
(note: You can change the strenght in the game.ini file with Notepad)
- The building menu is different, not bad but still some things are more difficult or even impossible.
Example: To repair a building: You have to unselect (right mouse button), then press "R" and while pressing R click the left mouse button.
Another example: In the orginal Dune you could attack ground (to let spice bombs explode etc..) In this game I didn't find how to do that.
- Worst of all: There is no Save game option! This must be a bug, because there was one in the previous version.
- Buildings are weaker
- Your attackers are slower in starting attacking the enemy.
- After winning the last level you can only press Esc to exit the game. No end movie as in the orginal game.
- Good news: There are a few cheats. The most usable cheat is Tab-F4: Get 9999 money.
Conclusion: Still a good and enjoyable game, but not as good as the original one.
Controls:
- Left mouse: Select, MoveTo, Attack
- Right mouse: Deselect, Cancel
- Arrows: Scroll map
- Esc: Exit game
- R (+left mouse): Repair building
- Ctrl+1,2...: Create group / 1,2...: Select group
Cheats:
Tab-F1: Start last mission
Tab-F2: Win the current mission
Tab-F3: Lose the current mission
Tab-F4: Get money (9999)
Tab-F5: Reveal all shroud
